Whenever a new technology becomes available, public universities tend to take advantage of it for educational purposes, but only a few prestigious institutions have the resources to develop online courses. This is why Harvard made the bold decision to offer their courses for free online via YouTube.

How to enroll in Harvard University Online Courses

The biggest challenge facing any project like this is name recognition. Students will only enroll in a class if they know it exists. Some people also feel that watching a lecture on a computer screen instead of face-to-face is somehow inferior. In order to convince students that their online courses are as legitimate as those on campus, Harvard would need state-of-the-art equipment and instructors with experience preparing for online classes. After some consideration, the university decided to go with a modular system that allowed them to expand or contract any part of the course at any time. This way, students could get the quality they desired without having to wait years for development cycles.
